"Germany's Magna Canta combines Gregorian chants and full choirs singing in latin with house and trip-hop rhythms in their smooth, chillout recordings. Each track combines old-world mysticism with ultra-modern sounds. For example, 'In Excelsis Deo' uses shimmering keyboards and throbbing percussion together with Gregorian plainsong. Another selection, 'Sanctum Christe' employs the same kind of musical juxtaposition. However, on this piece, a piano countermelody allows for chordal movement, thus blurring the lines between the ancient world of monophony and today's harmonic complexities. Other tracks such as 'Close to Heaven' and 'Celestia Organa' complete this musical picture, as digital sounds become entwined with powerful Gregorian singing.
'Pater Noster' is a very peaceful track. Almost like a beautiful selfless prayer with very uplifting electronic music. The chants will stir your soul and in an emotional moment draw a tear as well. 'Lux Lucies' will take you on a tranquail sonic journey. 'Russia' - terrific electronic cadence music with masterful gregorian chants. The arrangement is very well layered and textured. Wonderful. 'Kyrie' sounds like a perfect mix of 2 tracks that are masterfully merged into one another. You get hooked to one and the other one emerges quickly from behind and captures your attention. Often we hear stories and fables of mysterious places and sacred spaces that evoke images of the divine. In languages from the past, storytellers shared wisdom through words, heavenly voices and the movement of the stars into a future filled with dreams."
