Goran Dragic didn’t know what to expect when he came to the United States from Slovenia in 2008 to further his basketball career.
“My goal was to find my place. Hopefully I could play three or five years in the NBA and now it’s been 11,” Dragic said. “This is Year 11.”
    ……
A transition layup in Saturday's second quarter gave Dragic his 10,000th career NBA point, making him the first Slovenian player to reach that total. He now has scored 4,324 points with the Heat, after scoring 4,753 with the Phoenix Suns and 945 with the Houston Rockets.
“It means a lot,” Dragic said of getting to 10,000. “You’re working hard all your life. ... Hard work pays off. I still love basketball. I still like to play. I like to practice and keep continuing to work hard.”

    这场比赛德拉职业生涯总得分破万,创造了斯洛文尼亚篮球员另一个历史的里程碑。虽然待的环境与打法天差地远,但这场比赛仿佛看到2013-14赛季的德拉季奇。

Guard Goran Dragic said the session, as well as the leadership of coach Erik Spoelstra, allowed the Heat to regain a degree of swag after three consecutive losses.
"We had a little meeting to just try to get that swag back," he said. "Everybody was pumped. Everybody was cheering for each other. And we just followed the recipe of how Spo and the coaching staff told us before the game of how we need to defend and how we need to play. When we do that and focus, it’s a little bit easier."
      -------
      三连败后球队开了小会议。这场比赛热火就像是之前的对手奇才一样,面目全非,渴望胜利。德拉就算已失去原本的模样也一如既往,永远听从教练的安排,依照教练所说的去执行。

An MRI on Dragic’s knee returned negative when he originally hurt it earlier this month. But the Heat will re-evaluate the injury Monday.
“We’ll find out. We’re going to re-evaluate him tomorrow and have those kind of discussions,” Spoelstra said in advance of Sunday’s game. “We felt like it was something we could get under control. There are no absolutes in this league and every case is different, and his knee hasn’t responded the way any of us had hoped. When you’re playing games constantly and you’re as competitive as Goran, he wants to be there for his team.”

But it hasn’t just been a frustrating time for the team, Dragic’s patience has been tested waiting for his swollen right knee to respond to treatment and rest.
“It was frustrating,” said Dragic, who made his return Friday night against the Suns. “Every time when I did something, it swelled up. But finally it’s been calming down. I practiced two, three days straight. The knee reaction was good.”
The Heat’s starting point guard missed eight consecutive games with the injury, but went through shootaround Friday morning in Phoenix and started in the first game of Miami’s six-game trip. He had fluid drained from his right knee more than two weeks ago after an MRI returned negative.
Even with the handful of practices Dragic has been able to get in during his three-week hiatus, he didn’t expect to be 100 percent in his return. In fact, he expected to be on a minutes restriction.
“When you have problems with the knee, you cannot do much,” he said. “I tried to do my treatment. My focus on that, and then it was starting to feel better. I tried to do conditioning. I’m still not there, but I think it’s good enough.
“When the knee swells up, you have a limited range of motion and you cannot move well. So that was my biggest concern. I tried to get that swelling out. I was doing treatments a lot, and the last couple of practices the knee reacted really well. So the range of motion is back.”
            ……
Dragic played in four games after returning from the injury the first time before shutting it down again. This time he took a more methodical approach and missed eight games to allow his knee to heal, which he hopes makes this latest return different.
“I was out for eight games, so I did everything that was in my power and took the time,” Dragic said. “The training staff really helped me with that. That [scoreless] game, I didn’t even have an opportunity to practice and this time I practiced three or four times with the team.”
Remaining patient wasn’t easy for Dragic. But the hope is that it pays off.
“I had to battle myself, because I want to be there. The knee just didn’t allow it to,” he said. “There was a little bit of frustration, But the only thing that I could control was to do fitness every day, try to do everything that the staff was saying. And finally the time came that I could come back.”

After the Heat’s win over the Suns, Dragic said his knee wasn’t an issue in his first game back. But his conditioning is still a work in progress.
“I was fatigued. I couldn’t move,” Dragic said with a grin. “My lungs were almost exploding. But I was in constant communication with Spo when I needed to get out and get back. I think for the first couple of minutes, three or four minutes, I already was signaling to Spo that I wanted to get out.”
The Heat announced after Friday’s game that Dragic will not play Saturday against the Clippers on the second night of the back-to-back set. This was part of Miami’s plan even before Friday night, with Dragic coming off an injury.
              ……
Dragic says his focus was on "getting everyone involved"
              ……
Dragic said: “Bam did an amazing job setting those screens. And when I was in that gap, he rolled really fast. From there on, it’s just reading the situation and it was pretty good.”
              ……
"The whole five players on the floor, they need to work together and I feel [Friday], we did a better job," he said. "We need to sacrifice for others."

Here’s what Goran Dragic is willing to do in wake of Winslow’s growth
                              February 21, 2019 | BARRY JACKSON
                              PHILADELPHIA
Heat starting point guard Goran Dragic returned to practice from a December knee surgery this week to find essentially a new Justise Winslow: a player who has thrived playing 26 games as a starting point guard.
But Dragic, who was inactive for Thursday’s game against the 76ers, made clear Thursday that he’s willing to adjust to accommodate the team’s needs.
“If Justise is going to play on the ball, I can play off the ball,” Dragic said after the team’s shootaround at Temple University, in advance of Thursday night’s game against the 76ers. “We can interchange. As long as we’re winning, that’s the most important thing. We have a lot of guys who can play the same position. That’s coach’s decision. I did it in Phoenix, I did it here. I can play off the ball.”
Reminded that it got a bit awkward at times in Phoenix with three natural point guards (Dragic, Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas), Dragic reminded that he and Bledsoe played well together and said “that was totally different position. With three, it’s a little bit different [than two point guards]. It’s tough. It definitely helps now that you know what is best for the team. You can play without the ball, with the ball.”
Dragic, who has missed 39 of the Heat’s past 41 games, loves the Heat’s depth at guard (with himself, Dion Waiters, Winslow and Dwyane Wade) but said: “We need to work on it. We didn’t play a lot of games together. I know what me and Dion did in the past. It’s going to take time. But I’m looking forward to it.”
Coach Erik Spoelstra made clear that Dragic — who was averaging 15.3 points and 4.9 assists in 14 games — “is not ready to play 32 minutes” but “he will be back soon.”
Asked if he has decided on an eventual starting lineup — when Dragic is ready for his normal minutes — or whether it will be based on player performance in the coming days, Spoelstra cracked, “I may or may not.”
Dragic said he needs to work on his conditioning, but his shot is fine because he was able to do shooting drills in recent weeks. “My shot is where I wanted,” he said.
Spoelstra is encouraged by how Dragic looked at practice the past two days. “I’ve seen the things that can really help our team,” Spoelstra said. “You are talking about an All-tar veteran, a reliable player. We need that.”
Spoelstra downplayed any concern about having too many ball-handlers on the court at once.
“To beat the best teams in the league, you need playmakers, and that’s something at times we’ve lacked this season because of injury and guys being out,” Spoelstra said. “It’s a welcome addition to be able to have guys that can make plays. Guys have really learned how to play off the ball and be effective within the context of the offense. Goran is a guy that can play with or without the ball.”
Winslow, who previously expressed an interest in continuing to start, said that’s not important and he’s happy to do with whatever is asked of him.
Of he and Dragic, Winslow said: “We’re both attacking guards, like to get out in transition and run. That part is going to be natural for us. It’s not the first time me and Goran have played together. We’re both excellent playmakers.”
